My Journey
When my doctor told me that what I was experiencing was Domestic Abuse, I actually laughed. This was just us, just the way it was - I thought I was depressed. I left that relationship six months later and spent two years studying Narcissistic Abuse, just using the word abuse to describe my situation was hard because things like that don’t happen to people like me. It felt shameful that I had allowed myself to be treated like that. After all, he never hit me - so it couldn’t be abuse - right? Wrong.
I have experienced many emotions on this healing journey: anger, despair, fear, hopelessness, confusion and more. What I eventually concluded was that I love the man he thinks he is, the man he presented himself to be in the beginning, but I cannot love the man he gradually revealed himself to be.
You are worthy, you are enough and you absolutely deserve to heal and thrive.
